First-ever 4-day AHA accredited ACLS, BLS Instructor Course begins at KMCH Sempora

Kashmir Medical College & Hospital (KMCH), Sempora on Monday commenced the first-ever two-day American Heart Association (AHA) accredited ACLS & BLS Instructor Course, marking a significant milestone in advancing emergency and life-support training in the region. The programme aims to develop certified instructors equipped to train healthcare professionals in high-quality Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), strengthening emergency response and patient care across Jammu & Kashmir. The workshop was inaugurated in presence of Managing Director KMCH, Tausif Ahmad, Executive Director KMCH, Insha Qazi, Principal KMCH Prof. Nazir Ahmad Khan, Medical Superintendent Dr Syed Mubashir, HoDs, Padma Shree Faisal Ali, Organizing Secretary of the Workshop Mohd Rafiq Matoo (Former Director Planning), senior faculty members, doctors, administrative staff and staff members. The instructors of the workshop included Dr Paresh Navalkar, Regional Training Centre Faculty AHA, Director, Lifesupporters Institute of Health Sciences (LIHS) Mumbai and Dr Pallavi Yadav, Training Centre Faculty, LIHS Mumbai. While addressing the gathering, Managing Director KMCH, Tausif Ahmad, appreciated all the stakeholders for organizing such vital workshops. He extended his best wishes for the successful conduct of the course and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to promoting continuous professional & medical education development. “We are committed to organizing more such programmes to enhance the knowledge, clinical competencies, and teaching skills of our faculty members and healthcare professionals,” he said. Executive Director KMCH, Insha Qazi said, the institution is proud to host Jammu & Kashmir’s first American Heart Association (AHA)-accredited ACLS and BLS Instructor Course, describing it as a landmark step towards strengthening advanced medical training in the region. She said that until now, doctors from J&K had to travel to cities such as Mumbai, Delhi etc. to attend such international instructor and provider courses, which was both time-consuming and expensive. “For the first time, we have brought this internationally AHA accredited course to the doorsteps of our healthcare professionals of Jammu and Kashmir at KMCH. We are proud to be the first institution in the region to organise it,” she said. Reaffirming the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and professional development, Qazi said KMCH remains dedicated to continuously enhancing the skills and competencies of its doctors, faculty members, and other healthcare professionals. Principal KMCH, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Khan, highlighted the remarkable progress made by Kashmir Medical College & Hospital in a short span of time, stating that the institution has rapidly emerged as one of the leading healthcare and medical education centres in the region. He said KMCH is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, modern lecture theatres, well-equipped demonstration rooms, advanced laboratories, and a spacious central library housing more than 700 books along with a wide collection of national and international medical journals to support academic learning and research. Prof. Khan further said that patient footfall is increasing steadily due to the availability of quality healthcare services. He added that out of the total, 100 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds have been established, with 30 ICU beds already fully operational and catering to critically ill patients. He also informed that the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) are fully functional and equipped with modern facilities to provide specialised care for newborns, infants, and children. Prof. Khan reiterated that the institution is equally focused on excellence in medical education, research, and patient care, while regularly organising academic activities, workshops, and skill-development programmes to ensure that its faculty members and healthcare professionals remain updated with the latest advancements in medicine. The workshop is part of a series of internationally recognized training programs with three provider workshops and one instructor workshop already conducted at KMC Sempora helping build a resuscitation education ecosystem and training culture in Jammu and Kashmir.
