Telangana ranks 13th in NITI Aayog investment index

HYDERABAD: Telangana scored 47.3 out of 100 in overall investment friendliness and ranked 13th nationwide, according to the NITI Aayog’s Investment Friendliness Index-2026. The state placed 10th in the large states category.

Gujarat secured the top position with 56.6 marks, followed by Maharashtra (53.7), Tamil Nadu (53.3), Odisha (52.4) and Madhya Pradesh (48.9). Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka (48.7 each), Rajasthan (48.1) and Chhattisgarh (47.5) ranked ahead of Telangana.

Assessment across six categories based on investor feedback

NITI Aayog assessed 28 states and eight Union Territories across six categories to evaluate investment conditions. The study considered feedback from 1,850 investors and inputs from 165 partner organisations, based on 84 indicators.

The report noted that Telangana performed well in government policies, business environment and financial health, but scored lower in infrastructure and institutional environment.

Category-wise scores highlight mixed performance trends

Telangana’s scores included: infrastructure (10.5), business environment (7.8), resources (6.8), government policies (3.8), regulatory ease (7.5), institutional environment (2.0), financial health (4.7) and environmental sustainability (3.8).

The report also acknowledged initiatives such as TS-iPASS in improving investment processes.
