ASI caught entering woman’s house at night; held captive, beaten up by public; video goes viral

High drama unfolded in Odisha ‘s Ranpur town of Nayagarh district after an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police was allegedly caught inside a woman’s house late at night, triggering outrage among local residents. A video purportedly showing the police officer being detained and assaulted by locals has since gone viral on social media. The incident reportedly took place late on Friday night in the Ranpur NAC area. The police officer seen in the viral video has been identified as ASI Prashant Parida, who is currently posted at the Ranpur Court. According to allegations, ASI Parida had visited the residence of a woman in the Badako Sahi area of Ranpur during the late hours of the night. When local residents questioned him about the reason for his visit at such an unusual hour, he allegedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation. This reportedly led to an altercation, following which the locals detained and allegedly assaulted him. No official statement has yet been received from the woman concerned or the local residents regarding the incident. He claimed that the woman is personally known to him and said he had gone to her residence only to deliver medicine. “The woman is personally known to me. I had gone to her residence only to deliver medicine, as she was suffering from a headache,” said ASI Prashant Parida. On the other hand, the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Nayagarh, stated that he has not yet received any official information regarding the incident.
