Hungary Faces Energy Crisis as Record-Low Danube Forces Paks Nuclear Shutdown

Hungary’s Paks nuclear plant shut down for the first time in 42 years Thursday as record-low Danube levels made reactor cooling impossible, removing 2,000MW from the grid. Prime Minister Péter Magyar urged Hungarians to avoid air conditioning during peak hours as the European Commission prepared emergency energy talks.
