Fresh security concerns have emerged in the Gulf after a cargo vessel reported being struck by an unknown projectile off the coast of Oman near the Strait of Hormuz. According to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), the vessel broadcast an emergency message over VHF Channel 16, reporting that it had been hit around 20 nautical miles northeast of Al Khasab, Oman. The incident comes just one day after another reported explosion near a tanker in the same area, raising fresh questions about maritime security in one of the world’s busiest shipping routes. UKMTO has urged all vessels transiting the region to exercise caution and immediately report any suspicious activity.
