Karnataka tops India in recovering lost mobile phones, leads national CEIR rankings

Karnataka Police have emerged as the best-performing force in the country in tracing and recovering lost mobile phones, achieving the highest recovery percentage among the top five states reporting the largest number of mobile theft and loss cases. Karnataka Police have secured the No. 1 position in the country for tracing and recovering lost mobile phones, according to data available on the Central Government’s Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. The state has recorded the highest mobile phone recovery percentage among the five states that have reported the largest number of mobile theft and loss cases. The CEIR portal, developed by the Central Government, is used to report, trace and recover lost or stolen mobile phones across the country. Based on the latest figures, Karnataka has emerged as the best-performing state in terms of successful mobile phone recovery. Data shows that 5,72,972 mobile phone loss or theft cases have been reported from Karnataka through the CEIR portal. Of these, 1,55,940 mobile phones have been successfully recovered by the police. This gives Karnataka a mobile trace and recovery rate of 47.48%, the highest among the leading states with the largest number of reported cases. Telangana has secured the third position with a 44.16% recovery rate, recovering 1,37,049 mobile phones from 5,26,792 registered cases. Maharashtra stands fourth with a 39.74% recovery rate, where police recovered 1,59,068 mobile phones out of 6,89,044 reported cases. While Delhi has reported the highest number of mobile theft and loss cases in the country, it has recorded the weakest recovery performance among the top five states. According to the CEIR data, 10,24,244 cases have been registered in the National Capital Territory. However, police have recovered only 45,931 mobile phones, resulting in a recovery rate of just 7.09%. The latest CEIR figures highlight Karnataka Police’s strong performance in tracing and recovering lost mobile phones despite handling a large number of complaints. The state’s recovery rate has placed it ahead of other major states, making Karnataka the national leader in mobile phone recovery based on percentage of traced devices. Although Delhi has the highest number of reported cases, its recovery percentage remains the lowest among the five major states, while Karnataka has achieved the best recovery efficiency.
